From Noosa we drove directly to Brisbane. I really loved Brisbane, it has so many different villages, many bridges and the weather is most of the time brilliant! We stayed the first nights in boho West End. We loved this place, it’s full of vintage stores, bookshops, bars with live music and you could get a good cup of coffee everywhere. We went to West End’s (food)market and I bought a nice and fresh coconut.

In Brisbane it’s the river that gives the city it’s edge. You can easily go to all the villages by a free ferry. We took the ferry to South Bank, which is Brisbane’s beach street. Actually really weird to find a beach in the middle of the city, but it’s so nice and beautiful. We spent a few hours at South Bank and enjoyed the beach here and had a drink at the boulevard. We had heard that in Brisbane a burger restaurant is located which is one of the best restaurants in Brisbane, named Miele Container. And yes, I can cofirm, it was good…

Afterwards we walked through the city center and went for a drink at Eagle street. This is kind of a boulevard along the river with a spectacularly view. We met with 2 Dutchies whom we met on Fraser Island. The next (hangover)day we drove along the Gold Coast to Surfers Paradise. We stayed here only for two hours, because we didn’t liked it that much due to all the highrise next tot he beach. After Surfers Paradise we drove to a famous beach town named Byron Bay.

Nowhere on the East Coast we felt the good times vibe like Byron Bay. The coastal surf culture flows into the hippie town of Byron. We rented some bikes and explored this little relaxed town by bike. We had a nice coffee in one of the many nice coffee shops and discovered Byron’s beautiful beaches. We did the famous Cape Byron Walking Track that took us to the lighthouse of Byron and we saw some wild Wallabies on our way! The views along the route were incredible. At Watego’s beach, a wide and sand beach with surfers all over, we decided to relax a bit around the rocks.

We stayed two days in beautifully Byron and on our way back to Brisbane we stopped at Yakata’s Drive-In Cinema. It felt like we were in Grease! We watched the movie ‘The Accountant’ on a big screen, while we were sitting in our car next to plenty of other cars! The next day we had to drive back to Brisbane and we stopped at a wildlife park where we fed some kangaroos, which was so cute. This was a nice ending of our Gold Coast tour.

In Brisbane we had a short night, because we had to catch our plane to a new adventure: New-Zealand! I will tell you more about our trip in my next blog!

Love,

Rieke
